Slightly sentimental

Today is July 31st... in one week I will be 20.
20 sounds old. It truly isn't but it just feels like its going to be old.
No more "teen" at the end of my name.
In one year my driver's license turns around. In 10 years I will be 30.
In one year I can legally drink (although I won't...lol).
10 years ago, I was 10.
My friends are getting married right and left.
My lil sis is getting her driver's license.
I am going into my 4th year of college.
I must be old. ;)
No, really 20 is merely one step closer to heaven. Thats the coolest thought! Wow!
But, my prayer for 20 is that it will be a year that my light for Jesus shines even brighter and I pray that people around me will see the love and salvation of Christ!
Yay for being 20 in one week!

Goodbye security... hello insecurity

I like my security. I like knowing everybody around me, knowing where I am going, whats going to happen, and just pretty much everything there is to know. But there are those times when none of things apply to my life. Its like my legs get taken out from underneath me, and I guess its a good thing. *sigh* The funny part is that most of the time I know that these times are coming and I can't do a thing about them. Hahaha... but I fight like mad anyways.
What does this have to do with anything????
Last night I signed my life away! No, just kidding. I officially signed up and joined one of the leadership teams at a campus ministry. The scary part for me is that as I walked into orientation and the first meeting for the 2010-2011 school year I literally knew one person out of the 50ish people there. Let's just say that I left knowing about 15.
But the time in between me realizing I knew one person and then the time of me leaving with 15 known persons on my belt was rather long, stressful, and scary. (yes, I do get scared...lol)
I go through this little talk inside me... it goes something along the lines of this...

Wisdom: "Look welcoming... don't have the petrified, dear-in-the-headlights look"
Brain: "I can't! I am so scared. Can I just crawl in a hole and die??? Please??"
Wisdom: " No! Get a life! How many times have you had to start from the beginning with making friends?"
Brain: "It was never like THIS. I want to go home. I don't like being grown-up."
Wisdom: "It is ALWAYS like "this". Wimp. Grow up."
Brain: "Breathe"
Wisdom: "Breathe. Pray. Pray. Smile. Pray."

Somehow it always works out. :)
In this little stretches of my sanity, I learn once again to put my trust in God and to love those around me. Its not something I like to learn in this way, but obviously God is trying to work in my life. He is trying each day to get me to trust more completely in Him... in the big and small things of life. Even meeting new people.

Brain malfunctions...

The following is a conversation between my dear Mrs. L and I.

Mrs. L: "What are you doing for Melissa's birthday?"

me: " Well, we are going shopping because she wants to go shopping, and we are going to go watch a movie afterward."

Mrs. L: "Oh, is there a good movie out right now?"

Me: "Ya, we are going to go see_____ (the movie Melissa wants to see). I looked it up on Rate my Professor and it had good ratings and they said that it is just stressful, nothing else."

Mrs. L: "Good, that will be fun."

Me: "Yes it will be!! Oooh my goodness, did I just say 'Rate my professor'?"

Mrs. L: " (chuckling) Yes you did, but I totally knew what you meant because that is something I would do. And I figured you meant Plugged In."

Me: "Yes, oh my."

Sunshine, Softball, Feathers, and Finals...

Ding, ding, ding ... time for another post made up of the odds and ends from the brain of Stormgirl.
First, I want to start by saying that I LOVE the sun!! It is out right now and if it weren't for the fact that I need to go study for finals, I would be out in it. In just a little less than 72 hours though, I will be out in the sun!! I really should be outside... no, "should" doesn't cover it. I NEED to be outside... why? Because I signed up to play church softball this year. Oh boy, I don't know what kind of trouble I am into now. Stupid, crazy, insane??? Yup that's me, haha, and I love every minute of it.
But in that "less than 72 hours" period of time, there is finals. Good 'ole, beautiful, and fun finals. Just kidding!! I will be finishing up my first and last quarter of 20 credits... most exciting. Can't wait to kiss those textbooks goodbye, and I won't even cry when they leave!

Because I am in a play right now, we are starting to work on costumes. For one of the songs that I am in, I sing a song that is really funny and all of the ladies in this song have to have big poofy hats. We are hoping to be able to design our own! My dream hat would start off by being huge and bright, then I would put big ribbons all over the top, a bird's nest, and a little bird up and top. And then the crowning "glory" of the hat would be a t least one ginormous feather... one that was tally and fluffy and that bounced every time you move your head!!

Other happenings in life include:
  • the need to clean my room
  • training for 1/2 marathon
  • riding my horse
  • playing piano for different singing groups
  • learning to go by the name of Ethel and having a "boyfriend" with the name of Marcellus
  • recently getting Skype
  • looking forward to getting a new phone (with unlimited texting)
  • high-speed Internet (soon)
  • leading Spring-preview at school
  • looking for summer jobs

Well y'all that's it for no! Don't expect anything new until at least 72 hours from now! TTFN!

Simple Pleasures

Due to the influence of one of my "brothers" (he will remain nameless although I am sure most of you can guess who it is) I was inspired to eat ice cream. And so, in pursuit of all things creamy and sweet I trekked to Edaleens in search of 2 flavors that would satisfy my ice cream deficiency. Only minutes after entering the store I emerged victorious with a smile on my face and a paper bag in one hand that held my precious two 1.75 quart tubs of ice cream. What flavors did I get? Well, one was bubble gum and the other was maple nut. I know, I know... who likes bubble gum????? I DO!!!!!!!! Maybe it is because I like the blue or the flavor or the weirdness of it, but whatever... Bubble Gum ice cream rocks!!!
When I waltzed into the house, with my cheezy I-did-something-that-just-might-be-considered-crazy-and-possibly-naughty grin, my family just looked at me and was rather speechless when I happily informed them that I had bought ice cream. Their incredulous smiles quickly turned into hopeful grins as they asked if I was going to share "my" ice cream. And my rather mischievous answer was "maybe..."
Over the last few days, my family and I have greatly enjoyed the ice cream. I must say that it is one of the best things to eat when you are doing homework and starting to feel overwhelmed or when you just need a refreshing "brain break". Nothing like funky blue ice cream or that wonderfully sweet flavor of maple nut to revive you!!!

My reason for eating ice cream?!?!?! Well, although I am taking this song totally out of context and although I am risking sounding extremely selfish I am going to put a quote up from the song "The Next 5 minutes" by Steven Curtis Chapman.

"I'm living the next 5 minutes like these were my last 5 minutes. Cause I know the next 5 minutes may be all I have"... and so why not eat ice cream!?!?!?!

HoHoHeHeHaHa... ummm

Ho hum. My title has nothing to with my post and my post has nothing to with anything any particular. Am I making sense? See there are little thoughts running here and there in my brain... some may actually turn into posts... but thats in the future.
So I was thinking... what do radicals, exponents, and roots have to do with playing the piano? If you know the answer could you please let me know, because I have yet to find the answer to that question.

Have you ever participated in writing 154 comments on a Facebook picture? I have and let me tell ya, its hilarious.

I am doing a poster board (blog post to follow in the future on this) for geography. Well, thats what I am doing right now (when I am not on the computer). Actually Trevor, another guy,and I are doing. Just me right now. All the stuff is at my house and I am the "decorator/organizer" or whatever you wanna call me. Its due tomorrow and we are so going to get an A!

I just sneezed... life is great!

What would it be like to have no school and live in Hawaii? Don't you think it would be glorious?

I went to a different church this Sunday. I went my church and then left early and went to this other church. It was great! Couldn't understand a word cause it was all in Russian... thats why we had a translator, but it still was awesome. I think I am going to go back again with the friends I went with... good experience. I also think that I am going to go to a Spanish church soon... so anyone wanna come with me?

My music is on, I think I am going to change the playlist because I have listened to two of Jesse MacCartney's songs about 15 times. Hmmmm... how about some Chris Rice.

Its almost Christmas! Well kinda not really... with the way time flies it will be here before you know it.

I believe that universities and Attila the Hun have many similarities. They both tear you in pieces. I hate decisions... and yes those two statements go together.

Which spelling do you like better? "True" or "Troo"? :D

I am starting to be sad... basketball is almost over!!!!!!!!!!!! Boohoo!

Auditions for "Music Man" are in 3 weeks... still haven't decided it I am going to audition. Prolly but who knows.

I am so playing softball this year. Wait maybe I should say "attempting to play". lol

Went to a party at my friends house on Friday... stayed up till way late... got home at 1:00 am... was so rad!

Did you know that... ya, well I forgot. I will save it for next post.

4 X 4

This is the fourth picture in my fourth foulder!

This is my cat named George. He has many other names including, Fluffy, Fat Boy, Pudge, Budha Belly, Fatty, Jorge, small one, etc. He is around 20 pounds and is one smart cat! He is a baby (even though is 5 years old) and a coward, but he has provided us with a source of entertainment through his constant antics. We have taught him to sit and fetch all on command, and when he gets into his crazy mood, he has been known to jump up and turn the lights on. Aside from all this, he is truly an affectionate cat. When you are sick he will come and sit with you, when you are hurting he comes and sleeps behind your head, and when he misses you, he cries and cries until you come home or open the door to let him into your room. He is one amazing cat, and I love him!!
